That period is needed so the supercomputer actually calculates the data collected by satellites and ground stations.

Monthly Climatological Temperature

Monthly surface air temperatrure climatology in deg. C based on daily mean temperature. Contour interval is 5 deg. C.

Monthly Climatological Precipitation

Monthly precipitation (mm/month) based on satellite precipitation estimates over ocean areas and rain guage data over land regions. Contours are drawn at 50 mm intervals. Climatological wind vectors for the 925 hPa pressure level indicate wind direction with with speed proportional to the lenth of the vectors.
